Engineering Manager (Web) 

Based in BUD - Office 

 

 

Purpose of the position:

Are you passionate about modern website developments and looking for an opportunity to lead and shape the future of digital travel? As our Digital Engineering Manager (Web), you will play a pivotal role in Wizz Air’s Digital organization. You will oversee and manage the software engineering effort of Wizz Air’s main sales channels, with a particular focus on the e-commerce website. This includes managing multiple development teams from various vendors. You will also closely collaborate with the software architecture team to ensure Wizz Air’s software products follow industry standards, are well-documented, and leveraged effectively. This position reports to the Head of Engineering and Architecture within the Digital organization. 

 

Responsibilities include:

Strategic

  • Define and implement the technology strategy for website development, incorporating industry best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Establish governance frameworks for measuring and improving code quality, deployment cycle times and roadmap progress.
  • Implement and enforce engineering principles and standards across the various teams.

 

Delivery

  • Coordinate work for the current flagship digital project of Wizz Air, with a focus on website developments.
  • Ensure that the e-commerce website meets or exceeds quality standards, aligns with organizational goals, and business requirements are delivered within budget and specified timelines.
  • Establish and monitor key metrics to measure the performance and effectiveness of website development activities.
  • Coordinate regular training sessions for business users.
  • Perform assessments and benchmarking across the engineering teams. 

 

General

  • Direct management of 30+ external resources.
  • Manage budget, time, and developer resources.
  • Manage multiple vendors and participate in IT tenders.
  • Build strong partnerships across departments, ensuring digital initiatives align with broader organizational goals and stakeholder expectations
  • Responsible for the yearly and quarterly budgeting process.
  • Form and manage engineering strategy.
  • Actively seek opportunities, embracing the ideation process to leverage the possibilities.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in software development, with experience in e-commerce website development.
  • Thrilled in delivering stable, scalable and sustainable solutions all the time.
  • Min. 2-3 years in a leadership/manager role.
  • Experience with public cloud providers: AWS (preferred), Azure, GCP.
  • University or college degree.
  • Experience in managing a developer team, preferably including vendor management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to cooperate with a variety of stakeholders, team player personality.
  • Dedication, positivity, integrity, and inclusivity.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for custom build software solutions.
  • Ability to live and work in Budapest, Hungary.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
