Senior Program and Portfolio Manager 

Based in Budapest 

 

 

Purpose of the position:

Wizz Air is looking for a talented Senior Program and Portfolio Manager to join our Digital Product & Transformation team and take ownership of the development portfolio of a crucial Business Area Operations at Wizz Air.

As the Senior Digital Program and Portfolio Manager you will be the face of IT towards a Wizz Air business area. Representing the Digital strategy, you will lead initiatives and product teams creating the future processes, data, systems and ways of working for the business teams you are working with. Using digital solutions and leveraging advanced analytics, Wizz Air will make a step change in our operational efficiency and performance, and you will be in the lead of that.

You will be a go to partner for the business (including C-suite leaders), a bridge between Business and Digital. You will set the vision for a cross-product business value domain, and have an accountability and decision-making for Digital decisions within a business value stream area. You excel at working across teams, at product research and development methods.

You will be responsible for the best utilization of IT resources, for portfolio management, making sure that the resources are allocated according to business priorities maximizing benefit for the business.

You will also act as a Product Management Lead, owning definition of PM practices and standards, and igniting both passion and train the ‘muscle’ of digital product management across all product teams. You will also ensure product portfolio practices are established, and operationalized.

We look for someone who has both proven experience in bringing digital products to market, is able to lead several product teams, and is a great PM coach and practitioner to develop organization on how to experiment, iterate and innovate to redefine how we serve consumers, personally at the scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Business area ownership at Digital:

Act as an Area owner at Digital Department towards Operations – representing IT strategic initiatives to drive digitalization and innovation initiatives and accept IT development requirements from the business. Support business case creation, and prioritize efforts to ensure the team is creating maximum value.

 

  • Portfolio Management:

Create the yearly development portfolio planning together with the business, including budget planning – CAPEX and OPEX, and also resource planning (internal &external). Owns budget and maintains cost control on all associated activities.

Provide quarterly overviews towards the business about the ongoing development activities, plans vs actuals. Review prioritise and plan ahead for the next quarter.

  • Delivery responsibility:

Responsible for continuous value delivery and measuring outcomes through KPIs. Responsible   for delivery performance on a portfolio level vs commitments (budget, timeline, resources, scope)

 

  • Stakeholder management:

Partners with C-suite and business heads to set the vision for a cross-product business value domain, collaborate closely across teams to select and validate promising ideas and scenarios, assessing whether they drive specific goals

 

  • Team management:

Lead an internal team of Program and Product managers.

Coaches team on Product, Project, Portfolio and Program management techniques, business ideas testing and experimentation methods.

Manage escalations on a portfolio level.

 

  • Vendor management:

Manage a diverse vendor portfolio including Project managers, Architects, Business analysts, Developers, Testers, and other IT professionals. Ensure vendor contracts are made according to the agreed standards and maintain a blooming partnership with the vendors. Represent Wizz Air`s commercial interests in all vendor cooperations.

 

  • Innovation Ambassador:

Challenge status quo, and pro-actively lead improvements in ways of working.

Stay at the forefront of digital best practices and retain a comprehensive understanding of our evolving tools and systems.

 

Requirements:

  • 5-7+ years working in an international business environment, out of which 4+ years in product / program / portfolio management with proven track record of taking products / digital solutions to market
  • Experience in leading complex projects to measurable value deliver
  • Experience in working on or with the Airline Operations area is an advantage
  • Experience in lean, business process mapping, and Agile development practices  
  • Demonstrated experience in designing end-to-end customer experiences
  • In-depth knowledge of the relationship between business processes and products vision
  • Portfolio and resource management experience
  • CAPEX and OPEX budget ownership and management experience
  • Vendor management experience
  • People management experienceUnderstanding of IT Development methodologies and processes (waterfall, agile)
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree
  • Fluent in English (C1 and above)
  • A strategic thinker able to identify opportunities for growth and value creation
  • Strong and empowering leader with collaborative and cross-functional leadership and work ethics
  • Strong analytical skillset
  • Ability to think and act creatively, ability to prioritize to ensure goals are met
  • Great communication and presentation skills
