Marketing & Communications Manager 

Based in Luton 

 

 

Purpose of the position:

 

As the manager responsible for marketing and corporate communications (PR) for Wizz Air UK, the job’s primary purpose is to manage the company's marketing activities and external communications. This includes developing positive brand awareness, creating a regional marketing and communications strategy and nurturing relationships with local and international media. This person will work closely with our PR and marketing agencies in the UK to oversee activity and ensure the company's reputation is built and maintained.

 

This role requires close collaboration with central resources, including the Senior Marketing Team Lead and Head of Communications. Overall, this role is essential in ensuring that Wizz Air UK's marketing and communications activities and reputation align with the company's goals and objectives, while ensuring local market needs are kept top of mind.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Marketing:

 

  • Execute the annual marketing strategy for Wizz Air UK and its destination markets (including outbound & inbound routes) in cooperation and alignment with Wizz Air’s Senior Marketing Team Lead of Wizz Air
  • Work together with the company’s other commercial departments to identify areas of development and opportunities, creating marketing initiatives and activities that will drive potential customers to digital sales and engagement channels
  • Localise communications material in line with Wizz Air’s brand guidelines. Provide input to the guidelines and localise for the UK market.
  • Work on promotions and marketing campaigns, including the definition of key communication messages and creative design, to ensure brand consistency
  • Generate local stunt ideas that correlate with the target audience
  • Lead various marketing projects, including airport signage and using a wide variety of digital and offline marketing tools
  • Provide market and customer insights to central teams and generate actionable conclusions about the market based on relevant centrally conducted surveys
  • Identify, implement and manage the most effective marketing tools and channels to create awareness of Wizz Air’s key communications messages
  • Identify potential business partners and external business opportunities (airports, tourism boards), and turn these opportunities into tangible revenue gains

 

Corporate Communications (PR):

 

  • Cultivate relationships with key business partners and journalists in national and trade publications across the UK
  • Write clear and compelling communications materials such as press releases, presentations, boilerplates and data sheets, ensuring the department archive is maintained
  • Develop compelling story angles, aligning key messages with Wizz Air’s Head of Corporate Communications
  • Update key messages and media FAQs
  • Management of external agencies. Assist production of events, including pre and post-production
  • Coordinate response to media requests and enquiries in a timely manner
  • Pitch stories to media that will achieve the highest visibility in online, print and media

 

General:

 

  • Keep up to date with marketing and communication trends, innovations, techniques and media regulations
  • Identify and manage local PR/creative/media/event agencies in alignment with the Senior Marketing Team Lead and Head of Communications, assessing whether local leverage and knowhow outweighs scale benefit provided by central agencies
  • Maintain efficient working relationships with all local agencies and business partners, stakeholders and government entities
  • Leverage local media agency resources and recommend where new central resources may be required
  • Influence the broader Wizz Air organization to develop customer acquisition/engagement/communications programmes and strategies
  • Effectively allocate resources to ensure the best ROI
  • Monitor all relevant communications, including brand, digital and offline media KPIs connected to areas of responsibility
  • Cooperate with the rest of the marketing, communications and commercial teams to set priorities according to network strategy, understand market and brand strengths and weaknesses and quickly develop action plans to address them
  • Control costs associated with activities, managing the Wizz Air UK marketing & communications budget efficiently and accurately
  • Keep local contact databases up to date
  • Coordinate tenders with the central purchasing team
  • Proofreading of English customer, marketing, or communications materials

 

 

Requirements:

 

  • Min. 3 years of experience primarily in corporate communications, secondarily in marketing/brand management
  • Experience in managing complex projects in multi-market operations
  • Mastery in communications, customers, market understanding and digital marketing, either agency or client side
  • Native English speaker with excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Creative and confident with strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Resilient and have a passion for working in a dynamic airline industry
  • Ability to work well under pressure to ensure tasks are prioritized and goals are met 
  • Has stamina and good presentation skills
  • Results-oriented, persistent, dependable and consistent
  • Shows innovation, creativity and good lateral thinking
  • Self-motivated and proactive, willing to take initiative and shoulder responsibility
  • Proficient in MS Office applications
  • University / college degree
  • Ready to travel up to 50% of their working time
