Health and Safety Manager 

Based in Otopeni 

Purpose of the position:

The Health and Safety Manager will strategically develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive safety and health programs across the organization. This role involves leading efforts to identify and mitigate workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and promoting a robust safety culture. The Manager will work closely with senior management and various departments to integrate occupational health, safety (OHS), and environmental health and safety (EHS) practices into all organizational activities.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage comprehensive risk assessments for all components of the work system, including performer, task, equipment, and environment.
• Identify potential hazards and develop and implement effective mitigation strategies for both occupational and environmental health and safety.
• Develop, implement, monitor, and regularly update the organization’s prevention and protection plans, ensuring compliance with current regulations and company policies.
• Create, approve, and disseminate safety and health instructions tailored to specific workplace activities and conditions.
• Integrate safety and health responsibilities into job descriptions, ensuring all responsibilities are approved and communicated effectively.
• Ensure employee compliance with safety protocols, including adherence to the prevention and protection plan and safety instructions.
• Conduct and oversee regular inspections and audits to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations.
• Prepare and oversee technical documentation for safety and health training programs, including development and delivery of training sessions.
• Design and implement a training-testing program to assess employee understanding and application of safety protocols.
• Develop and maintain action plans for addressing serious and imminent dangers, ensuring all employees are trained for effective emergency response.
• Maintain records of high-risk areas and activities, establish and ensure proper placement of safety signage, and maintain records of professions requiring specific authorizations and medical exams.
• Coordinate with occupational medicine to monitor and assess worker health and fitness for duty.
• Oversee the maintenance and inspection of safety systems, including alarms, ventilation, and protective equipment.
• Ensure periodic checks and testing of work equipment are performed by qualified personnel.
• Participate in the investigation of workplace incidents, preparing and maintaining detailed reports on accidents and incidents.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and directives from labour inspectors and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain and enhance safety practices.
• Propose and implement incentives and sanctions based on compliance with safety obligations, and undertake specific activities to enhance workplace safety, including addressing specialized risks.
• Supervise and provide guidance to direct reports within the Health and Safety team.
• Report directly to the Program Manager Health and Safety based at Wizz Air HQ.
• Engage in frequent travel to various organizational locations as needed to perform duties effectively.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field in accordance with Law No. 319/2006 on safety and health at work.
• Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in health and safety roles.
• Extensive knowledge of local and national safety regulations and standards.
• Strong leadership, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
• Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and senior management.
• Experience in supervising direct reports and managing safety teams.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently.

Functional Capabilities & Skills:

• Expertise in conducting field inspections across various work environments.
• Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and provide hands-on assistance as needed.
