Regional Ground Operations Manager 

Based in Budapest 

 

 

Purpose of the position:

The Regional Ground Operations Manager reports to the Head of Ground Operations / Nominated Person Ground Operations. RGOM is responsible for the operational and safety performance of airports within their regions through the management of the work done by Ground Operations Managers (GOMs), Ground Operations Airport Supervisor Team Leaders and Ground Operations Airport Supervisors reporting to them.  RGOMs are involved in various interdepartmental project management tasks focused on achieving company targeted performance levels. In their absence, the appointed RGOM/GOM will deputize unless another specific nomination is made.

Responsibilities:

The Regional Ground Operations Manager is responsible to the Head of Ground Operations for:

  • Owning and maintaining local relationships at the nominated airports in the region, including but not limited to airport authorities, ground handling, control authorities and relevant state departments;
  • Ensure that Wizz Air has the best possible representation in the local markets and all key internal stakeholders are kept fully informed and suitably represented as required on all issues concerning the operation, including quality of product and customer service;
  • Ensuring the safety, security and compliance of ground operation activities including all contracted activities in the region;
  • Oversight of the start-up of new operational locations (new stations and bases); capacity increase of operational bases, alternate and diversion arrangements in the region;
  • Maintaining timely and effective contacts with other departments within Wizz Air and with outside organizations, contractors, external entities;
  • Liaison with the Competent Authorities on Ground Operations matters in the region;
  • In conjunction with the Ground Operations Managers:
    • Ensuring safe, compliant and secure day-to day operations including operational efficiency, on-time performance, disruption management, customer care, oversight of relevant programs and system developments;
    • Ensuring that all ground handling operations and activities are carried out in compliance with the relevant regulations, company policies and standards. Ensure that ground handling companies and airport authorities in the region comply with the requirements of Wizz Air safety at all times;
    • Leading and managing the airline’s ground handling suppliers and airport companies in the region to deliver targeted performance outcomes in all areas of safety, cost control and operational performance.
    • Communication and follow up in case of flight disruptions and follow up on service recovery procedures, based on EU261 and/or other local regulations.
    • Monitoring operational messages and delay codes, follow up with non-complying stations;
    • Maintaining continuous oversight of deviations from company standards, ensuring the on-time execution of safety and compliance corrective and improvement actions, and the systematic risk assessment of ground operations processes.
    • Undertaking station visits and relevant audits/inspections and trainings as follow up on outstanding items as Air Safety reports, mystery passenger report, audit findings within the confines of Ground Operations processes.
  • Participating in cross-functional projects and new product development from planning to introduction stage;
  • Liaison with Airport Development and Purchasing departments to secure lowest cost contracts and working on long term cost cutting strategies. Participate in SGHA negotiations, vendor research and selection;
  • Liaison with Finance, Network Development & Scheduling, Customer Experience and other relevant departments. Manage cost in line with budget and identify new opportunities for operational improvement and/or cost savings within the region;
  • Liaison with the relevant Safety, Security and Compliance Managers on safety, security and compliance matters affecting ground operations in the region;
  • Representing Wizz Air in relevant industry bodies as required.

 

 

Skills and competencies:

  • Shall have a thorough knowledge of the airline ground operations concept;
  • 3 years of relevant work experience of which at least 2 years should be from the aeronautical industry in an appropriate position;
  • Leadership skills and people management experience;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Solid decision-making;
  • Work well under pressure.

 

 

Requirements:

  • Fluent English (written and spoken);
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent;
  • Computer proficiency.
