MAINTROL Long-Term Planning Engineer 

Based in Luton 

 

 

Purpose of the position:

This position plays a vital role in ensuring the airline’s fleet remains operationally efficient and compliant with all regulatory requirements by providing robust long- and mid-term maintenance planning. It supports safe, cost-effective, and timely maintenance execution.

Key Responsibilities  

1. Long/Mid-Term Maintenance Planning

  • Develop and maintain mid- and long-term maintenance plans for the WUK’s fleet in line with the Approved Maintenance Programme (AMP), regulatory requirements, and operational schedules.
  • Plan and forecast maintenance activities, including heavy maintenance checks, engine overhauls, component replacements, and other scheduled tasks based on calendar time, flight hours, and cycles.
  • Coordinate with MAINTROL teams to ensure a smooth transition from long-term plans to day-to-day execution.

2. Maintenance Programme Management

  • Ensure all scheduled maintenance, modifications, and Airworthiness Directives (ADs) are incorporated into the mid- and long-term plans and completed within the required timelines.
  • Assess updates or amendments to the AMP and adjust plans accordingly.

3. Resource and Fleet Management

  • Analyse fleet utilisation data to optimise maintenance schedules and minimise operational disruption.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure resource availability, including manpower, tooling, spare parts, and hangar slots for planned maintenance events.
  • Identify opportunities for task bundling to reduce aircraft downtime.

4. Budget and Cost Control

  • Provide maintenance forecasts to support budget planning and cost control.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining compliance with airworthiness regulations and operational requirements.

5. Coordination and Communication

  • Act as the key liaison between Technical Operation and external Approved Maintenance Organisations to align planning with operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Support aircraft lease returns, deliveries, or redeliveries by providing detailed maintenance plans and forecasts.

6. Compliance and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of all planned maintenance activities in the Maintenance Management System (AMOS).
  • Generate regular reports on maintenance progress, fleet airworthiness, and upcoming tasks for internal and external stakeholders.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency of long- and mid-term planning.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure planning practices remain up to date.

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering
  • Training: Airbus A320FAM Training Course (preferably with Aircraft A320 (PW) B1/B2 Licence)
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in CAMO, maintenance planning, or a similar role within an airline or AMO environment.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of continuing airworthiness regulations (e.g., UK CAA Part-M/Part-CAMO, Part-145, or equivalent).
  • In-depth knowledge of aircraft maintenance programmes, technical documentation, and fleet planning processes.
  • Familiarity with Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., AMOS).
  • Skills: Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to forecast and solve complex scheduling challenges.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experienced in AMOS and in in MS Office/PNI etc for planning and reporting.
  • Ability to work on shift and overtime, if needed.
